A bit of history first:
The Military N1 Deck Jacket, originally issued by the U.S. Navy in the 1940s, is an iconic cold-weather garment known for its durability and functional design.
Designed for sailors working on open decks during World War II, the jacket was created to withstand harsh, windy, and damp conditions often encountered at sea.
The jacket's initial design featured a dense, cotton outer shell, usually in a khaki or olive drab color, treated for water resistance.
Inside, it was lined with a warm wool blanket material, typically alpaca or wool blend, which provided insulation against cold ocean air.
A corduroy-lined collar added extra warmth and comfort around the neck, and the zipper was shielded by a storm flap to keep out wind.
Over time, its rugged build, practicality, and style led it to become popular with civilians and a staple of military-inspired fashion.
Though no longer used by the military, the N1 Deck Jacket's vintage look and sturdy construction have kept it in demand for both fashion and functional wear, with many reproductions and modern interpretations available today.
